McConnells Mill State Park is one of my favorite places to go hiking. There is a lot of good hiking and the terrain has something for everyone. It ranges from mild to very difficult. The trails all follow the creek and there are many chances to get pictures of some great scenery. For our hike we began at the mill and hiked towards Breakneck Falls. This starts as an asphalt path and quickly turns into a dirt path climbing over many slippery rocks. The terrain gets very rocky and rough in some parts so it is advised to be careful and take a buddy if possible. Because the rocks can be very slippery it is advised to wear a hiking shoe with good tread. There didn’t seem to be many blazes on the trail but since it continues to fallow the creek its not difficult to stay on track.
The most difficult terrain is the hike up to see Breakneck falls. Once we had gotten to the falls I wanted to climb up over the falls. As I got up over the top of the hill I had noticed a small memorial for a lady who had died for a fall there. This was a vivid reminder of why it is so important to be careful and plan ahead for these trips. There is always a possible danger and the more careful and prepared you are the less likely it is for something to happen to you. From here we made our way back to the covered bridge to leave. We had taken our Great Dane and she had a blast. Taking a dog on this terrain means you have to be very cautious and think ahead so they do not hurt themselves. This was a great day hike and I am sure we will return to hike again. I hope you enjoyed the post
