Recently we had the opportunity to go kayaking at Raccoon Creek State Park. It was an awesome day to be out on the water. We rented the kayaks from the boat rental location at the park. The price was only $10 for the first hour and $5 per hour after that. This would be a good location for beginners since the water is very calm and has no rapids. I would strongly recommend this location for anyone looking for a nice easy day on the water. For more information check out the parks Facebook Page or Website.
After kayaking on the lake we stopped at the Frankfort Mineral Springs Loop Trail. This little loop trail takes you past the health spa that was created in the late 1790’s and was open until 1912. People visited the spa because the mineral springs were thought to contain 15 different minerals that had medicinal qualities. The building is now boarded up due to graffiti but you can still see the outside and the springs are beautiful as well. This is another great location for beginners to hike. There is a large hill going up to the lodge but other than that it is very easy terrain.
